home sweet home

we took off about 8 on tuesday morning for good old austin, texas. we calculated the trip to take us 3 days of driving. the first day took 13 hours and we stopped in albuqurque, new mexico. the second day took 9 hours and we stopped in abilene, texas and finally the third day only took 3 short hours and we were there!
and we are off....in a good mood!

once trent got the hang of driving a 26' foot truck with a car hauler on the back, i let weenie crawl onto his lap to keep him from whining. not sure the one hand on the wheel was the safest but we made it right?

as we were approaching new mexico we hit a little hitch. i was sort of alseep and all of the sudden trent goes, uh em.....i think we lost a tire. i immediately sat up and started freaking out and this is what went through my head-oh crap we are going to crash, how do you stop a truck this big once you have lost a tire, please let us be safe. after that i tried to calmly say, what? trent said i think i just saw our tire fly across the road. so with ease he pulled over. i was stumped. i have had flat tires before and it is not that easy to pull over. well once we got out and saw our tire completely gone i realized there were 4 tires on the trailor so we really didn't have much of an issue pulling over. THANK GOODNESS.

of course we hit a patch (and the only patch) of area where we did not get reception and trents parents were right behind us in my car trying to call to say our tire was smoking but couldn't get us. awesome right? so much for cell phones in times of need. fortunately for us these two ladies pulled over with us and said (weird)....we have four different cell phones with four different providers lets see which one gets service! so they handed trent one of their phones and he called uhaul 800 number and they sent someone out.

behind trents mom you can see a car in the distance and to the right of that car you can see two tiny figures. that is trent and his dad going to move the retread off the road. i was nervous they were going to get hit, but THANKFULLY they didn't.

the whole process took an hour, which wasn't bad, but it was HOT! i was surprised that the whole time we were pulled off the road those ladies were the only ones who pulled over to see if we needed help. when we were all done a guy who we had all seen drive by came back and said he just didn't feel right. it ended up he lives in georgetown, which is like 10 minutes north of were we live here in texas, so we chatted with him for a bit and then hit the road again.

the drive through new mexico was a lot different than i thought. i thought it would be deserty and ugly. but there were some beautiful rock formations and it was pretty hilly. trent didn't care for the hills much (that truck was heavy)

for some reason weenie always picked the side to sleep on with the sun and then would burry himself in my blanket, therefore getting really hot. so i kept a vent on him the entire time. what a spoiled little guy.

i though it was pretty cool there is a town in texas called trent. once we get unsick of being in the car we will take a road trip to see what trent is all about.

our apartment has a garage and this is what it looked like the day we got here. that is only half the uhaul and neither car.

this is the ramp that trent and his dad built to put the bug in and out of the uhual. it worked amazing. we didn't have one problem, infact it was the easiest thing we unloaded.

here we are at the end of the day unloading the bug from the uhaul. we went behind the grocery store to their loading dock to do it. it was pretty fun.

starting to come out!

almost out!
and we're out!

weenie was pooped at the end of the day. so were we all. we got here at the hottest time of day and started unpacking. we were all drenched from sweat, pretty sick. our apartment is 3 stories. you walk in from the door and walk up 17 (yes lavaun counted) to the kitchen and living, then another 17 to the bedroom and bathroom. it was not fun, and we are all paying for it. i will post pictures of our apartment once we get all settled in.

overall it was a great trip and we couldn't have done it without trents parents. man are we going to miss them and already do. they drove my car out and followed us the whole way and helped us unload and clean. thank you so much for everything you two. words cannot describe how we feel. you are the best and there is no doubt about it. we love you so much. see you soon!

I'm glad you guys made it safe. That stinks about the tire, but at least U-haul fixed it! I hope you enjoy your new place. Unpacking is no fun, huh?! Good luck!!
