catching up

trents parents came out for a week and on the days that i was feeling half way good we would venture out. one of those days we went to san antonio to see the alamo and the river walk. it was a lot different than i had pictured it. i thought there would be more shops on the river walk, but there were mostly restaurants. it was so fun and the weather was great!

we ended up eating at the mexican restaurant right by that huge bush/tree. we started to walk around trying to pick the best place, but i started going down hill really fast and we had to eat right then or i was going to be sick and we happened to be by this place. i enjoyed my salad, but i don't think anybody else really liked their meal. trent did enjoy the coke though!

this is the alamo in san antonio. it was really fun to walk through and learn about the war and why it happened. i never new that davey crockett was part of this war. i loved that song when i was little, my mom would sing it all the time. (trent and i did not plan to match that well)

i look mad here but i'm really not. i was just getting REALLY hungry and the sun was in my face, haha.

the trees were really cool here. the branches grew straight out and then down. we are so glad trents parents were able to come visit. they are our first visitors since moving to texas and it was great to see family. i just wish i had felt better while they were here. we already miss them, come again soon please!

this hotel was across the street and i thought it was really pretty.

a family tradition of mine was to eat what Christ ate on Christmas Eve. My mom tried to replicate what Christ would have eaten back then, so we always had salmon, scones (for unleavened bread), grapes and grape juice. On Christmas Eve my mom wanted us to focus more on Christ than Santa so this was one way. It was always fun for me to imagine that Christ was eating the same thing.

trent did a great job of cooking the scones. he said he perfected scone cooking as a scout.

another tradition of mine growing up was making cinnamon rolls. I have never made them without my mom or my sister but really wanted to do them this year. It was a huge task (especially when most food makes me sick) but I had so much fun and glad that trent joined in to help! my mom wanted us to learn to give on Christmas and not focus on giving. i always enjoyed this part of christmas but i think i was the only one.

i made the dough and sculpted it into the rolls and trent did the butter and sugar and cinnamon and placed them beautifully in the pan. i hope next year i am up to making them again!

here is trents work!

since being pregnant i'm not good with keeping up with the blog. plus not much is really going on with us and so life has been pretty boring. christmas was pretty uneventful, we woke up not really believing it was christmas. it was our first christmas without snow and being all alone. there is just something about being with family (mostly little kids) that makes christmas what it is. i tried to keep christmas as close to our family traditions growing up as i could. apparently i did more of mine and not enough of trents, i kept getting comments from trent that we weren't doing enough of his traditions, maybe next year? i hope everyone had a great christmas and a happy new year!
